AMS InStar Reviews
Vertafore is not selling InStar any long, although we’d bet that if you pushed them to sell it to you they would. However, even though InStar is one of the much better systems on the market (in our opinion) with Vertafore’s decision to no longer sell it we believe it’s just a matter of time before they cut support to this product and force everyone to AMS 360. Therefore, purchase with caution.

Review: | InStar pre-AMS was a really good system. The learning curve wasn’t very long, it was easy to use and support was quite impressive. They offered numerous training options to fit our budget and needs. We were very sad to see AMS purchase them and screw up a great thing. Overall was very impressed with the system and was the happiest with it prior to AMS taking it over and messing it up. The new studio version runs slower, support is terrible (typical of AMS). AMS is doing everything they can to get me to upgrade to AMS 360 and I have no desire to do that. I don’t know how much longer they will support InStar so we may be forced to change systems one of these days so we’re looking at other systems now. Unfortunately nothing really grabs my attention as of yet.Rating wise, I would’ve given the old InStar a 5. With AMS I give it a 3. |
Strengths: | Easy to use, doesn’t take very many steps to process work, doesn’t require going through a lot of windows to process work, great support. |
Weaknesses: | Could be more single-entry, although better than most; commercial policy management was better than most, but had room for improvement. |

Price: | Back in the day it was $3995 for a single user and then $700 for each additional user. Support was decent at $180/mo + $20/mo for each additional user. It’s not being openly sold now days. |
